Habitat houses are built with volunteer labor and tax deductible donations of money and materials. Habitat houses are then sold to partner families at non-profit, financed with affordable, no-interest loans. The homeowners’ monthly mortgage payments are recycled into a revolving Fund for Humanity that is used to build more houses. Homeowners are required to invest 300 hours of “sweat equity” into their house and a combination of other Habitat houses.
The House of Grace provides free and confidential counseling, shelter, and assistance for women and children who are victims of domestic abuse. Serving DeSoto and eight other North Mississippi counties, the shelter helps an estimated 1,200 women each year. The House of Grace 24-Hour Crisis Line is 662-342-1432.
The Home Builders Association of North Mississippi is the voice of housing and seeks to promote a positive message about our members and our commitment to the community. The HomeRun 5K is a great platform for us to proclaim the great services offered by our organizations and sponsors. With Snowden Grove Park, the ‘crown jewel’ of North MS, as the stage for our event, we will be hosting over 700 runners from all over the mid-south. The HomeRun 5K will soon become the premiere running event and fund raiser in DeSoto County.
